Working collectively helps city to capture £20m for Castlegate and two priority cultural projects

When the Culture Collective was founded, it was with a clear view to level up funding for culture in the city and to make the case to national government that investing in Sheffield would deliver results.

In our published strategy we identified four priority cultural projects, including S1 Artspace and Harmony Works. Highlighting these projects and others showed how the government could make investments now to kick start the levelling up we need to see in the city.

Following the launch of our Strategy for Culture in June, over the summer those involved in the Culture Collective worked as part of a wider city team to submit a compelling bid to government to invest in cultural-led regeneration at Castlegate. The government announced this bid was successful in late October. There are many reasons why this bid was successful but feedback from government indicates that Sheffield publishing a joined up and ambitious Strategy for Culture helped to make the case. This success evidences what can be achieved when the city works together on a collective basis.
